To Kindle or not to Kindle?

For over a year now I have been curious about the Kindle. For anyone not familiar with the Kindle it is a device from Amazon that you can download books (and much more) on. Not exaggerating I read on average 3 books per week so I have been VERY curious about the Kindle. Brian offered to buy me one last year but I really, really enjoy holding my books in my hand and can't imagine how I would feel about reading via the Kindle instead. And apparently, it doesn't matter because they are back-ordered and they were last year also. I've said I wish I knew someone with one so I could try it out but I don't know anyone who has one. But SOMEONE has to have one, otherwise they would not be backordered for the second holiday season. Do YOU Kindle? Do you know someone who does? And if so, what is the general impression?

I don't have one, sorry. BUT, it was featured on Oprah...she had the Amazon CEO (I think or creator) of it come on her show and talk about it. That's probably why it's backordered. She swears by it. http://www.oprah.com/slideshow/oprahshow/20081024_tows_kindle

I really want this as well. I think it is awesome. No more books cluttering my bookshelves. You know how you and me are, when we hear about a book, we want it then.
I also hear it is not like looking at a computer screen, which is what I would be worried about. Let me know what you hear.

Ive been debating one of these as well...but like you there is something about holding a book, seeing it on my shelf with a creased cover, etc

i know what you mean, books are an obsession of mine. in fact, when i was little (and a little monster) my parents had to punish me by taking my books away, since being sent to my room was a treat! all that uninterrupted time to read. lol.

i've actually been thinking of one of these for awhile now, since i have too many boxes of books, and no space in the apartment for anymore bookselves. but then, there is just a feeling of a book, the texture and smell of a page, seeing it on a shelf to remind you...

maybe that's my inner geek showing again. :)i'm curious what you decide!

First, how in the heck do you have time to read that much? You work, you have a family, your blog, you read other blogs and more! Do you sleep?
As for the Kindle - it seems really cool, but I am with Leslie, I love the look and feel of books. We just bought a bookcase that covers an entire wall in our dining room because my books were taking over the place!

I have one and my mother finally ordered hers and loves it, so tonight I ordered one for my dad. As of the current time (3:56 am EST),refurbished Kindles ( http://www.tinyurl.com/RefurbKindle ) are back in stock at Amazon and still $329. Dozens have been sold and shipped this week, but they keep rolling in and back out again. They won't last, so order one while you can. If you miss one this morning, be sure to read my post about playing Kindle Lotto:

You too can have a bright shiny Kindle under the tree this year, and without having to pay the exorbitant prices on eBay.
